KEY Energy 2026, one of the leading renewable energy exhibitions in Europe, brought together companies, professionals and decision-makers at the Rimini Expo Centre from 4–6 March.
Northern Power Systems participated with its own stand, meeting partners, clients and new contacts to discuss wind energy projects, integrated renewable energy systems and opportunities for future collaboration.
For our team, KEY – The Energy Transition Expo was more than a showcase of new technologies. It provided an opportunity to exchange ideas directly with professionals working across the energy transition and to better understand the priorities shaping upcoming renewable energy projects.
KEY Energy 2026 in 5 Key Numbers
The 2026 edition confirmed KEY’s growing international reach and its role as a meeting point for the energy industry.
According to the official event figures, KEY Energy 2026 included:
- 125,000 m² of gross exhibition space;
- 24 exhibition halls;
- more than 1,000 exhibiting brands, including 320 international companies;
- 530 hosted buyers and delegations from 59 countries;
- 10% growth in total attendance, with international attendance increasing by 9%.
Across the exhibition, technologies, services and solutions covered seven areas of the energy transition, creating opportunities for dialogue between technology providers, EPC contractors, investors and other energy-sector stakeholders.
Northern Power Systems at KEY – The Energy Transition Expo
Throughout the three-day event, the Northern Power Systems stand provided a meeting point for conversations about renewable energy projects, wind technology and integrated energy solutions.
Our team welcomed existing partners and clients as well as new contacts interested in understanding how wind generation can contribute to commercial, industrial and distributed energy projects.
These discussions also highlighted an important point: renewable energy projects increasingly need to be evaluated as complete energy systems rather than as individual generation technologies.
For NPS, this means considering not only the wind turbine itself but also project development, grid requirements and the potential integration of wind with other technologies.
Battery Energy Storage Systems Were a Key Topic
One of the technologies that attracted significant attention during KEY Energy 2026 was battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Storage can play an important role in renewable energy systems by helping manage when electricity is produced and consumed and by supporting the integration of variable renewable generation.
This is particularly relevant when different technologies are combined within the same energy system.
For Northern Power Systems, battery storage is therefore relevant to the development of hybrid energy solutions combining wind, solar PV and storage.
The appropriate configuration, however, depends on factors such as the site’s load profile, available renewable resources, grid conditions and the objectives of the project. Storage should therefore be evaluated as part of the overall system design rather than as a standalone addition.
From Individual Technologies to Integrated Energy Solutions
A key takeaway from KEY Energy 2026 was the importance of looking at renewable generation as part of a broader energy strategy.
Depending on the application, wind generation can operate as a standalone source or be integrated with solar PV, battery storage and backup generation.
This approach is especially relevant for industrial facilities, remote locations, islands and other sites where energy cost, reliability or grid constraints influence project design.
These configurations can already be found across different NPS wind energy projects worldwide.
Northern Power Systems works on renewable energy projects ranging from wind turbine supply to turnkey projects, hybrid systems and microgrids.
For developers and energy users, the starting point remains the same: understanding the site, its energy requirements and the available renewable resources before selecting the appropriate system architecture.
