The Northern Power 2.3’s simple architecture means reliable high availability wind power and less downtime. With its direct drive power train and fewer moving parts, your NPS 2.3 will never have unscheduled maintenance due to gearbox failure and planned maintenance is reduced to just once a year. The permanent magnet generator spins 100 times slower than traditional generators, reducing wear and potential downtime. Full power conversion isolates the turbine from potential grid events that could take the turbine offline. It all adds up to the high availability Northern Power 2.3 generating electricity more of the time by design.

Proven Design: The NPS 2.3 shares technical roots with the NPS 100 which was initially designed for unattended mission-critical operation in remote locations and currently boasts fleet availability of 98+ percent. Extensively tested at the U.S. National Wind Technology Center, the NPS 2.3 drive train is independently verified by technical experts.

No Gearbox Failure: The NPS 2.3’s direct drive architecture has no gearbox. Gearless design means no forced outages due to gearbox failure and more MWh of production over the project life.

Isolation from Grid Disturbances: Our full power conversion provides high quality power while also isolating the NPS 2.3 from grid disturbances that could cause damage and downtime.

Designed for Serviceability: With fewer moving parts and possible points of failure, planned maintenance for the NPS 2.3 is reduced to just once annually. Rapid serviceability is emphasized
with an integrated service lift, hub accessibility from inside the nacelle, and an onboard crane which allows for repair of key components including the modular generator in the unlikely event of an unplanned outage.
