Quiet Operation

Northwind 100 Sound Profile: 55 dBA @ 30 meters (98 feet)

The image of a quietly spinning turbine is a compelling one—with the Northwind 100 it’s a certainty. The gearless design, advanced blades and harmonically engineered towers all contribute to our impressively low apparent sound levels that help make a Northwind 100 a welcome addition in any neighborhood setting.

What is the sound profile of a Northwind 100?
To continue to meet Northern Power’s demanding quality standards, our turbines have undergone the same rigorous 3rd party testing to evaluate our sound metrics as they have for performance and safety certifications. These tests show that the Northwind 100 has an apparent sound level of
55 dBA at 30 meters which resembles normal conversation or soft music.

More important to note is that common neighborhood activities such as driving, mowing the lawn and operating many household appliances all have significantly higher dBA levels—making the Northwind 100 a quiet turbine against the ambient backdrop of residential communities. In more urban locations, the turbine would operate undetected except for the elegantly spinning blades, quietly powering a new clean energy future.
