Marketing Communications Specialist

 

Location: Barre, VT

Department: Sales & Marketing

Reporting to: VP of Sales & Marketing

 

Summary

 

A small marketing department working in the emerging renewable energy marketplace is looking for a self starter who can bring high energy and a great attitude to our high-functioning team. The Marketing Communications Specialist will manage all aspects of the company’s creative communications, collateral, press releases, website, budget support, attendance at 2-3 tradeshows each year, support business partners in their attendance at regional tradeshows, support company-sponsored training with logistics and marketing support, and develop new company sponsored events such as open houses and customer/partner webinars. This position interfaces closely with the marketing team, but also with various other groups within the company. The ideal candidate must be able to multi-task, manage a variety of details and timelines, develop processes and procedures, and think creatively about continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of the Strategic Marketing Plan to develop overall priorities, goals, and messaging for the company’s activities in the marketplace
  • Help the sales and marketing team to develop a prioritized list for the key tradeshows to attend alone or with business partners.
  • Manage all aspects of each tradeshow appearance, including signing up for space, tracking relevant invoices, submitting presentation abstracts, sending in logos and company descriptions, shipping materials, and developing procedures and notes for booth staff.
  • Help develop plans for company sponsored webinars and in-person events, and then manage all aspects of implementing them.
  • Maintain inventories of “freebies.”
  • Maintaining the marketing physical infrastructure related to tradeshows, events & campaigns such as graphics, booths, website & other collateral development.
  • Keep track of budget related to marketing events and help the team stay within budget.
  • Manage external vendors as necessary related to booth materials, freebies, and other marketing events. Evaluate performance and maintain relationships with those agencies that have strategic significance to the marketing function.
  • Provide value to the small but active marketing department as a whole, as well as to the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned by Executive Management or the VP of Sales and Marketing.

Required Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent work experience
  • 1-3 years of marketing communications and/or Tradeshow/event management experience.

Communications Skills

  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Travel:

  • Minimal travel may be required to participate in trade shows, trainings, or events.

Manager Payroll Accounting

 

Location: Barre, VT

Department: Accounting

Reporting to: Corporate Controller

 

Summary

 

The Manager Payroll Accounting has lead responsibility for timely and accurate processing, accounting and reporting of payroll, travel and entertainment (T&E) expense, compensation and other employee related costs. This individual will maintain accounting, tax and regulatory compliance, and will design and implement automated, cost efficient processes and systems for payroll, T&E, and other employee related costs.

 

Responsibilities

Payroll and Compensation Accounting:

  • Manage and guarantee weekly disbursement of multi-state payroll, including garnishments, benefits and taxes in coordination with the HR Department and ADP, with exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
  • Ensure the proper interpretation and processing of new employee payroll records.
  • Ensure proper input of pay program updates and deduction amounts ensuring compliance with state laws.
  • Monitor state laws for changes, and ensure timely setup of new state classifications as employees are hired or relocate.
  • Process special checks outside the biweekly runs, and make edits/adjustments as needed.
  • Prepare monthly accruals related to payroll and other compensation accounts. Maintain payroll and other compensation accounts and reconcile monthly to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare routine reports and payments to government agencies and insurance companies.
  • Update stock administration software for financial information as necessary, generate monthly recording of stock compensation expense and reconcile entries.
  • Manage regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of all payroll records.

Employee Expense Processing and Accounting:

  • Manage configuration and administration of the Company’s electronic expense reporting application (Concur).
  • Ensure accurate processing and payment of expense reports through Concur.
  • Manage the interface of Concur activity into the General Ledger system and ensure all exceptions are resolved.
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of all employee related vendor addresses and payment terms in accounting system records.
  • Assist in processing of 1099s and maintain correct vendor 1099 classifications.
  • Gather electronic information for financial and insurance audits.

Financial Program Management (desired):

    • Create program management calendar for the fiscal year, track results and provide status reports for key Finance projects
    • Create project plans and conduct program reviews to ensure the completion of key Finance projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in delivering multi-state compliant payroll as well as accounts payable experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation a plus.
  • Working experience of payroll tax at the federal, state and local levels.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred; relevant experience considered.
  • Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to be organized, detail oriented and accurate, while meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated success in operating effectively in a fast-paced, complex, rapid growth environment.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant federal, state and local payroll laws including continuing education on new regulations.
  • Strong computer skills, especially with accounting systems, Excel, and ADP.

Financial Analyst

This revolutionary approach delivers higher energy capture, improves availability, eliminates drive-train noise, and significantly reduces maintenance costs. The company currently manufactures the Northern Power™ 100 turbine, designed specifically for community wind applications such as schools/universities, businesses, commercial farms, and municipalities. In March, 2011, the company launched the Northern Power 2.3 designed for onshore utility wind applications.

 

Northern Power Systems is a fully integrated company with over 130 employees that designs, manufactures, and sells wind turbines into the global marketplace from its headquarters in Vermont, with additional offices in Massachusetts, Michigan and Switzerland.

 

Summary

The Financial Analyst provides reporting and analysis for both business units, Distributed Wind and Utility Wind, and all corporate functions.  He/she will work closely with the accounting and IT teams to prepare monthly financial reports and analysis for business and functional leaders, the corporate staff and the Board of Directors.  They play a lead role in preparing all budgets and forecasts including trend and variance analysis.  He/she will also support a number of key projects and business initiatives including pricing and margin analysis, manufacturing cost reductions, R&D projects, and financial system improvements.  The Financial Analyst will report to the Director of Finance, Distributed Wind and will also support the Director of Finance, Utility Wind.

Responsibilities

  • Financial reporting and analysis for the Distributed Wind and Utility Wind businesses, and all corporate headquarters functions
  • Prepare and review monthly financial reports including detailed trend and variance analysis with business and functional leaders
  • Prepare financial presentations for review with corporate executives and the Board of Directors
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process for the business units and all corporate functions
  • Work closely with Accounting and IT to design and implement automated financial reporting tools
  • Provide financial support for key business initiatives including pricing and margin analysis, manufacturing cost reductions, and R&D projects

Required Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting
  • 0-2 years of financial analysis experience (will consider talented entry level candidates)
  • Intellectual horsepower as evidenced by strong analytical skills and ability
  • Advanced Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Organization and time management skills, ability to handle multiple-priorities and meet critical deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of financial analysis and/or accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing business
  • Advanced degree (MBA) and/or certifications (CPA, CMA, etc.)
  • Project management experience including design and implementation of new Financial systems
